Status first, because in 2026 it decides everything else: as of 21 July 2026, A23 Rummy has no cash tables. Head Digital Works, the Hyderabad operator behind it, switched off deposits and real-money play in late August 2025 once the Online Gaming Act, 2025 received assent, and took its challenge to the Karnataka High Court within days. What ships today is a free-to-play build on virtual chips. Every rupee figure below is dated before the stop — a log of what was, not a live offer.

I'm Kabir, 28, Chandigarh. Most evenings I pull slot mechanics apart for fun, but A23 was my long-running side study: the same lobby, screenshotted every first Sunday into a folder named Lobby Log. Two more habits travelled with this app — after any update I play three hands with sound off, then on, because the ear catches animation lag first; and every Friday I swept the wallet so it never held more than ₹500.

Eighteen years in one lobby: the era table

You can read the company's whole arc without leaving the home screen.

EraWhenWhat the lobby was
Ace2Three2006 – Aug 2020Head Digital Works' original 13-card platform out of Hyderabad — desktop-first, rummy only, one of India's earliest
A23 rebrand25 Aug 2020New name, new mascot, mobile-first lobby; the operator claimed over 16 million registered players at the switch
Multi-game years2021 – mid 2025Poker, fantasy and casual titles bolted around the rummy core; A23 became a platform rather than one app
The stopLate Aug 2025Deposits and cash tables switched off after the Act's assent on 22 Aug 2025; court challenge filed, around 500 roles cut
Free-play eraAs of 21 Jul 2026Points, pool and deals on virtual chips; freeroll tournaments with non-cash prizes

The last row is the strange one. Every button animates exactly as before; only the money is gone.

June to August 2025: my final cash season

That last paid stretch ran from 14 June 2025 on an iQOO Z7, mostly from the corner table at Indian Coffee House in Sector 17, where the coffee costs less than a pool 61 drop. Opening deposit was ₹300 over PhonePe UPI; PAN-based KYC cleared in about forty minutes the same afternoon. Thanks to the Friday sweep rule, my total top-ups never crossed ₹500.

The withdrawal I logged properly: Saturday 9 August 2025, ₹520 requested at 9.41 pm to PhonePe. Status flipped to processed at 9.46, credit landed 10.07 pm — twenty-six minutes end to end, nothing to chase. My one real blunder came earlier, on 20 July: I burned a whole evening slot on a 6.30 pm Super Series deals freeroll, convinced the ₹1,000 prize line was cash. It was a voucher ladder. Read the prize page, never the banner.

Then 28 August. Same coffee house, same corner, and the Add Cash tile simply wasn't there. I have audited this lobby for years the way other people follow a cricket side, and watching it pull the shutter halfway down landed heavier than I expected.

Note to self from that evening: the leftover ₹86 went out on 3 September over UPI, next morning. Sweep rule vindicated.

Build notes, v9.8 to v10.7.1

Four builds tell the recent story. v9.8 (12 March 2025) redrew the tournament lobby and added the schedule filter I used weekly. v10.0 (30 June 2025) cut the UPI deposit flow to two screens — the build my whole cash season ran on. v10.1.3 (28 August 2025) was the suspension build: deposits and cash tables removed, wallet withdrawal kept. v10.7.1 (2 July 2026) is the current ~64MB free-play release — honestly the smoothest of the four.

RummyCircle, RummyTime and three ways of going quiet

The big licensed lobbies all stopped within the same fortnight of August 2025, but not identically. RummyCircle's operator Games24x7 suspended cash play and let the app go largely still; RummyTime's owner Gameskraft suspended on 26 August 2025 and later shut sister brand RummyCulture entirely. A23 took the third path — contest it in court, cut deep, keep the fullest free lobby of the three. For keeping your 13-card reading sharp in 2026, it is the most complete survivor.

The free lobby in July 2026 — and the nudge that grates

Today's app gives you points, pool and deals on virtual chips, daily freerolls and practice tables against live opponents. Getting in is painless: the roughly 64MB APK, one Android prompt about your browser, an OTP — no deposit step, because there is nothing to deposit. The annoyance is the tone. A "Mega Tournament tonight" push still reads like an old cash promo until the prize line turns out to be a headphone draw, and when your chip stack busts, the refill nudge arrives with cash-shop urgency.

Still an 18+ page: chip play keeps rummy habits warm even without rupees. If cash formats ever return here — or you play them elsewhere — fix a weekly number before the first deal, treat any bonus as locked until you have read its release rule, and stop the night you catch yourself topping up just to feel even.

A23 Rummy FAQ

Can I still play A23 Rummy for cash in July 2026?
No. Head Digital Works suspended cash tables and deposits in late August 2025, and as of 21 July 2026 they have not returned. The current app runs points, pool and deals rummy on virtual chips, with free-entry tournaments.
What happened to money players left in their A23 wallets?
Withdrawals stayed open for leftover balances after cash play stopped. I pulled out my last ₹86 on 3 September 2025 over UPI and it landed the next morning. If you still hold an old balance, log in and check the wallet page rather than assuming it is gone.
Who runs A23 and how long has it existed?
Head Digital Works, a Hyderabad company operating since 2006. The platform launched as Ace2Three and was rebranded to A23 on 25 August 2020, which makes it one of the oldest rummy brands in India.
What does the free-to-play A23 app actually offer now?
The July 2026 build (v10.7.1, about 64MB) carries the classic 13-card formats on virtual chips, daily freeroll tournaments and practice tables. Prizes in free events are non-cash — vouchers and goods — so read the prize line before you plan an evening around one.
Is there any sign cash rummy comes back to A23?
Head Digital Works challenged the 2025 Act in the Karnataka High Court within days of the suspension. As of 21 July 2026 the app itself shows no cash tables. I would not park money or plans on rumours — watch the operator's own announcements.
