Ranking order
Best to worst: Trail (set), Pure Sequence, Sequence, Colour, Pair, High Card. Memorise that order and you already beat most casual tables.
Note the quirk: A-K-Q is the highest sequence and A-2-3 the second highest — many beginners assume A-2-3 is lowest and lose shows for it.
Rough odds
A trail turns up about once in 400 deals, a pure sequence roughly once in 220, a plain sequence about once in 30. Pairs come about one deal in six. Knowing a sequence is rare helps you value it correctly.
